The Dallas Cowboys don’t really have a reassuring running back situation. Can former Titans and New York Jets star Chris Johnson help them? He certainly thinks so.
After eating in a restaurant with former Titans teammate Vince Young, Johnson was approached by TMZ cameras and didn’t shy away from what’s on his mind, which is getting the Dallas Cowboys to sign him.
I’d fit good in Dallas. That’s what we’re trying to do. Dallas, come holler at me.
The Cowboys did not draft a running back despite the thin and lean pickings they have right now after the departure of DeMarco Murray. The running back depth chart consists of Darren McFadden, Ryan Williams and Joseph Randle, not exactly awe inspiring. Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett believe that behind the offensive line they have, any running back can put up nice numbers, but maybe they’re taking a risk by not signing anyone of note or proven current ability?
Not quite sure if Johnson still has it in him to help them. After six seasons of rushing for at least 1000 yards in each of them with the Tennessee Titans, Johnson didn’t really impress with the Jets in 2014. He rushed for 663 yards on 155 carries (4.3 per carry). He signed a two year deal with them before that season, but the team decided to decline their option on the second year, making him a free agent.
Veteran running backs coming off seasons with only 600-something yards don’t really have much of a market in the NFL, not with the way the league is going right now. Especially not someone like Johnson, who is considered as something of a locker room distraction, thinking he’s as good as he was in 2009, when he surpassed 2000 yards in a season.
Johnson is a three-time Pro Bowler (2008-2010), making one All-Pro team (2009) and winning the NFL’s offensive player of the year award in 2009.
