NFL Rumors – New England Patriots Interested in Signing Brandon Spikes

Brandon Spikes

Not everything about the New England Patriots has to do with the deflated balls scandal. There are other things in this world, like the possibility of signing former player, last with the Buffalo Bills, Brandon Spikes.

The 27-year old linebacker is visiting his former team, hoping to get a deal done as quickly as possible. Spikes played for the Patriots from 2010 through 2013, before moving to the Buffalo Bills, signing a one-year, $3.25 million deal.

Spikes had his problems in New England, especially in 2013. He did play all 16 games but after missing practice during the playoffs, he was put on injury reserve, and wasn’t picked up for another contract, sending him to free agency.

He played in all 16 games for the Bills last season as well. Didn’t do too well, didn’t do too badly, but he doesn’t fit their new defense, which is why the Bills aren’t exactly fighting for him.

It’s interesting that he’s now in discussions with the Patriots considering how badly things were left off when he left, saying some harsh things about the organization and the treatment of him.

But Spikes needs a job, and the Patriots are anything but sentimental, only making decisions based on finances and what’s best for the team. As a linebacker to add to the depth chart and fill in certain gaps, especially if he’s not asking for too much money, and with knowledge of their defensive scheme, picking up Spikes isn’t such a bad idea.
