The Minnesota Timberwolves have the number one draft pick this year. What will they do with it? Most believe they’ll pick either Karl-Anthony Towns from Kentucky or Jahlil Okafor out of Duke. But maybe the choice has already been made?
According to Probasketballdraft, via discussions and talks with people around the NBA, there isn’t much of a debate. The Timberwolves will be taking Towns.
So is it official? Obviously not, although with the number one pick, the Timberwolves don’t really need to hide their selection. However, the draft process in the NBA and the NFL works in a certain way. Even if the Timberwolves aren’t looking for a trade, they’re keeping their cards close to their chest.
That is, except for leaks. However, there are other “insiders” alleging that Okafor will be the one getting picked first. Okafor seemed like the automatic choice before the college season began, but after it, Towns became the favorite, showing more abilities that a pro team would like.
Okafor averaged 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds with Duke in his freshman season. Towns, another player who bolted after just one year in college, played a smaller role on a much deeper team, averaging 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. He had the almost undefeated season. Okafor was part of the title winning Duke team, although wasn’t great when it mattered the most.
