NBA Rumors – New York Knicks & Minnesota Timberwolves Interested in Signing Vitor Faverani

Interested might be a strong word, so let’s settle for mildly intrigued on behalf of the New York Knicks and the Minnesota Timberwolves when it comes to Brazilian center Vitor Faverani, who hasn’t done much in his short time in the league, playing for the Boston Celtics.

Faverani, who most of his pro experience comes from playing in Spain with Malaga, Murcia and Valencia, missed the entire 2014-2015 season due to a knee injury. He was waived by the Boston Celtics in December. He did play a little bit for them in 2013-2014 while splitting his time with the Maine D-League team, averaging 4.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 13.2 minutes a night, playing in 37 games.

Now healthy and finished with his rehab, Faverani is trying to keep his NBA dream alive, and will be working out for the Timberwolves and Knicks, who don’t specifically need anyone: They need a lot of everything, although the Timberwolves do have a little bit more impressive young talent to build and count on. The Knicks? It’s Carmelo Anthony, maybe a bit of Tim Hardaway Jr. and that’s it. A clean slate.

Faverani, 27, does have options waiting for him in Europe that might end up paying him better money than his next NBA contract. Right now he’s in contact with Israeli Maccabi Tel-Aviv, the 2014 Euroleague champions under David Blatt. He’ll try and see if there’s any chance of making an NBA roster before signing with anyone in European basketball.
