The Pittsburgh Steelers had one of the best offenses in the NFL last season. Ben Roethlisberger, possibly giddy from his recent contract extension, thinks it’s going to be even better this season.

With the help of Antonio Brown at wide receiver and Le’Veon Bell at running back Roethlisberger finished with 4952 passing yards, completing 67.1% of his passes, throwing 32 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. It was enough to get back into the playoffs and finish first in a tough AFC North, but they did lose their first game to the Baltimore Ravens.

So while the defensive side of the ball tries to regain the dominance it had for so many years, the Steelers seemed to be putting all their chips on their offense becoming even better, which is very unlike their best seasons in the 00’s and the 70’s, but you have to focus on where the talent is, and right now, it’s the offensive side of the ball.

I hate to say yes or no, because I don’t want to offend anybody else that’s been here. But you look at stats from the NFL, we had the No. 1 wide receiver and the No. 1 overall back. Kind of hard to argue with those numbers. If we can stay healthy and believe in each other and play the best football when we need to and have each other’s back, then yes. We need to be a selfless football team. That’s one of the key ingredients to being a championship football team is being selfless and being there for one another.

Brown has 39 catches and 3,197 yards since 2013. Bell was the league’s second-leading rusher with 1,361 yards who also caught 83 passes last season. There’s plenty of promise in young receivers Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton, along with an offensive line that’s started together the past two years. Heat Miller isn’t getting any younger, but he’s quite a reliable pass catcher with 66 catches for 761 yards last season.

Sounds promising, but if the defense can’t improve on what they did last year, having the best offense in the NFL isn’t going to get them a lot further than they were last year.
