NFL Rumors – Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Line Making Jamaal Charles Happy

Not too long after complaining about his offensive line, Jamaal Charles seems a lot happier about the group he has blocking for him this season, hoping it helps the Kansas City Chiefs get back into the playoffs.

Charles ran for 1033 yards and 9 touchdowns last season, his lowest production since 2011, but it might have had something to do with the nonexistent passing threats on the team. Charles declined in that aspect as well, falling from 693 receiving yards in 2013 to 291 last season.

The Chiefs didn’t make that many moves regarding their offensive line. They did draft Mitch Morse, a center in the second round. But most of Charles’ confidence comes from the fact that the unit is healthier than it was last season, or at least supposed to be.

I just feel comfortable because I feel like I have a Pro Bowl guard Ben Grubbs in front of me and I’ve got Jeff Allen back and we went to the playoffs with him.  We’ve got Fish [Eric Fisher] who is developing more in his third year, we’ve got Donald Stephenson and he played a whole season and did a great job when Branden Albert and Fish were going at it and battling for depth at the position. I feel like we’ve got some guys that have been playing for a while. We’ve got vet guys up there that can help the young guys. I feel so comfortable with that line now. Not saying I didn’t last year, but I feel a lot more comfortable than I did last year.

Allen played in just one game last season while Stephenson was suspended for four games. The unit should be deeper this year, and hopefully Fisher, the number one overall pick in 2013, will start playing like the All-Pro he was expected to turn into.
