NBA Rumors: Minnesota Timberwolves Are in Karl-Anthony Towns State of Mind

Unless something very strange happens in the short time between now and the draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to take Karl-Anthony Towns out of Kentucky with the number one overall pick.

Towns worked out for the Timberwolves, and it seems everyone is quite pleased with what they saw from the big man, who seems to be distancing himself further and further away from Okafor in terms of quality and likelihood of getting taken first.

There are mirages and smokescreens on draft night, but a number one team doesn’t have to use them. The entire board is available to them, and there’s no reason in trying to fool anybody. Minnesota have been hot for Towns according to almost every single report since day 1, and it’s not likely to change despite some suggesting Towns isn’t happy about landing anywhere but Los Angeles with the Lakers, who own the number 2 overall pick.

Towns is a very good defender, plays well under the basket and has excellent range for a big man, which makes him more than just a rim stopper or low post scorer. To many he’s the complete package, who just needs some time developing instead of getting thrown right into the deep end. The only thing probably stopping him from posting the kind of numbers Okafor had last season was playing for the better team in the platoon system John Calipari had at Lexington due to depth and overall talent on the team, which got them to the Final Four, but not to lifting the championship trophy.
