The Dallas Cowboys continue their efforts of signing franchise-tagged Dez Bryant to a long term contract, but it seems there are still some substantial differences between the two sides.

Bryant, franchised for $12.82 million, is looking to make “Calvin Johnson” money or even more, which means north of $16 million a season on average for the deal he gets. The Cowboys? They’ve offered him $12.8 million a season on average, which is quite a rise from the 10’ish per year they were offering initially over the course of six seasons.

The Cowboys and Bryant don’t have much time to agree on this. After July 15, if there’s no agreement on the deal, the two sides will have to wait until the end of the 2015 NFL season to continue discussions. Bryant will have the right to hold out and not show up to training camp, preseason games and the first 10 games of the season, although each missed game costs him money proportional to the salary he’s getting per the franchise tender.

Considering the Denver Broncos offered a very similar sum to Demaryius Thomas (allegedly), maybe the talk of collusion between the two franchises regarding their negotiations with both star receivers aren’t imaginary, and the NFLPA does have ground to move forward with its complaint.
