NFL Rumors – New York Jets Planning on Giving Demario Davis a Bigger Role

One of the things the New York Jets are going to be different in compared to last season is on defense, including giving linebacker Demario Davis a much bigger role to play.

Davis is entering his fourth season with the team, playing an inside linebacker since 2012. He started in all 32 games over the course of the last two seasons, finishing with 3.5 sacks and 78 tackles last season. He didn’t get any Pro Bowl invites, but it was his best season, and entering the final year on his rookie deal he is clearly making the right path towards getting a big contract boost when it’s time to re-sign or hit free agency.

So what will be so different this season compared to past years? It has more to do with the Jets probably switching from their 4-3 look from time to time.

Davis is a better-than-the-numbers show pass rusher, and could be used on the outside from time to time when the Jets get creative.

It’ll help him boost is unimpressive sack numbers, help out the Jets, and mostly make him a richer man once this season is over. It’s hard to see the Jets not signing someone who is emerging as one of the best young middle linebackers in the NFL, unless he asks for a contract that’s way out of their league.
