NFL Rumors – Tennessee Titans & Marcus Mariota Finally Have a Contract Signed

The last first round pick without a deal, Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans have finally agreed to his rookie contract, which comes just in time before training camp begins.

The four year deal, as expected, includes a fifth-year option. The money? it’s set in stone, that wasn’t the problem. The thing keeping Mariota and the team from reaching an agreement was the offset language in the contract, regarding whether or not the Titans can take back some guaranteed money if Mariota doesn’t complete his deal with them and signs for another team.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan, the Titans and Mariota agreed to partial offset language. This finally puts Mariota in the clear to start playing at training camp, and for the number two overall pick who also won the Heisman Trophy last season with the Oregon Ducks to battle with Zach Mettenberger for the starting quarterback slot.

It’ll be quite a surprise if Mariota isn’t the one starting for them by the time the season begins. Mariota was the last unsigned first-round pick from this year’s draft, but cornerback D’Joun Smith and defensive end Henry Anderson of the Indianapolis Colts are the only two draft picks who remain unsigned.
