NFL Rumors – Seattle Seahawks Trying to Seal Bobby Wagner Contract Negotiations

The offseason isn’t just about Russell Wilson for the Seattle Seahawks. Things seem to be a bit more positive in the Bobby Wagner front in the attempts to secure a contract extension as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.

Wagner, another player who started his career in Seattle in 2012 (second round draft pick) has emerged as one of the best inside linebackers in the NFL over the last two seasons, making the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro first team.

The 25-year old did miss five games but there are no concerns regarding his long term health & fitness, and it’s rumored that two sides are very close on a deal that should pay Wagner around $10 million a season on average, which might make him the highest paid inside linebacker in the league (Lawrence Timmons of the Steelers with a $9.75 million average annual salary is the highest right now).

But what does the Wagner deal mean for the Seahawks in regards to Russell Wilson? Probably that the Seahawks won’t be getting both deals done by the beginning of training camp and that Wilson, who is insisting on getting paid “Aaron Rodgers Money” which is around $22 million in average salary, is going to have to wait until the end of the season to carry on with the negotiations.
