NFL Rumors – Indianapolis Colts Trying to Sign T.Y. Hilton to a New Contract

The Indianapolis Colts are the next team trying to bring down the demands of a star wide receiver, currently in negotiations with T.Y. Hilton.

Hilton, who saw what happened with Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas this offseason, is asking for around $14 million as he enters the final season of his rookie deal which is worth $1.5 million as he was a third round draft pick in 2012.

Hilton is coming off two consecutive seasons of more than 1000 receiving yards, finishing with 82 receptions and 1345 yards last season, that included 7 touchdown receptions. He has quickly established himself as the number one target for Andrew Luck over the last three seasons, and now wants to be paid like one.

The Colts don’t have cap space problem, but they do have more deals to think about, especially Andrew Luck. Being a franchise quarterback and one that’s helped turn the fortunes of a franchise around (one year without the playoffs is a disaster over the last 17 years in Indianapolis) means getting paid big time when the time comes, and the Colts have to consider than when dealing with Hilton.

In any case, Hilton’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, thinks that a deal won’t be achieved by the beginning of training camp, which is only a few days away, but that might just a way of adding pressure to the situation.
