NFL Rumors – Steven Jackson Begging the Dallas Cowboys to Sign Him

Retirement is still not an option for Steve Jackson, but after his disappointing seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and age clearly taking its toll on his running ability, it’s unlikely that anyone is going to sign him.

Jackson rushed for 1250 yards and 12 touchdowns in 27 games for the Falcons in two seasons with the team, averaging only 3.6 yards per carry. Instead of helping a team that made the NFC championship game in 2012, he was part of a rapid and painful decline that saw the team miss the playoffs two years in a row.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Jackson rushed for over 1000 yards in eight consecutive seasons with the Rams, but was never an efficiency guy. He was a running back who didn’t get injured too often and could carry the ball time and time again without showing too much wear & tear, but his 4.2 yards per carry isn’t too impressive.

After over 2700 carries and going past the 32nd birthday mark, it’s hard to think Jackson still has a lot more to give. The Cowboys might not have DeMarco Murray anymore or an impressive list of running backs, but adding Jackson to the mix isn’t going to help them in any kind of way.

Jackson has had a great NFL career although on a losing team. He probably wants to play behind the best offensive line to play behind in the NFL, but making pleas on Twitter isn’t going to save his career from ending. Everything comes to and end. For running backs, it usually ends sooner than it did for Jackson.
