In what might be the most bizarre story of this offseason/preseason, Geno Smith got punched in the face by teammate I.K. Enemkpali, resulting in a broken jaw and the New York Jets releasing the linebacker. Besides the $600 not being paid back, it’s also about the quarterback sticking a finger in Enemkpali’s face and daring him to do something about it.
This all begins with Smith not showing up to Enemkpali’s training camp during the summer. The linebacker wanted to get paid back for the unused plane ticket he bought for Smith. The initial reports said Smith hadn’t come around to paying him back, but maybe there was more to it, and Smith was having fun with the fact that he was being chased around for money.
This is coming from the mouth of Ryan Clark who retired six months ago and trained in the offseason with Enemkpali. In short, it’s a rumor coming from a certain source, but not someone who was actually there. According to Clark, wasn’t apologetic or remorseful about not paying back the $600 to Enemkpali, and the two have argued about the matter earlier in camp.
On this occasion (Tuesday morning), they got into a heated argument about it in the locker room, and Smith put a finger to Enemkpali’s face, saying “well, you’re not going to do anything about it.” Then came the punch that broke Geno Smith’s jaw, which means six to 10 weeks out of action, while Enemkpali got cut by the team, although he has soon found himself a new job.
This wasn’t the first time they had an issue over this same situation and nothing came from it the first time. you know, the first time they got into an argument, you know, words were said, disrespect thrown both ways, both guys separate and walk away. so when you have that situation happen one time, i’m sure a lot of people weren’t expecting it to get where it’s gone.
