NFL Rumors – Washington Redskins Know Too Well Robert Griffin III Isn’t as Good as he Thinks he is

Robert Griffin III

After the first season, the Washington Redskins felt they had a franchise quarterback for years to come in Robert Griffin III. After three seasons in the league and multiple injuries, hearing him say he’s the best in his position is a mixture of sad and funny.

Some think Griffin isn’t even the best quarterback on the team, although Jay Gruden is keeping him as the designated starter for the 2015 season. Kirk Cousins had very little good moments last season, even if most of that is due to the poor offensive line. Griffin seems to have regressed as a player since his fantastic rookie year, which pretty much means that without his running ability, he’s far from being an even average quarterback.

I feel like I’m the best quarterback in the league, and I have to go out and show that. ny athlete at any level, if they concede to someone else, they’re not a top competitor, they’re not trying to be the best that they can be. There’s guys in this league that have done way more than me. But I still view myself as the best because that’s what I work toward every single day. I don’t feel like I have to come out here and show anybody anything or why I’m better than this guy or better than that guy.

The Redskins still haven’t picked up their option on the fifth season of Griffin’s deal. Unlike others from his class – Russell Wilson, Ryan Tannehill and soon Andrew Luck, he’s not getting an extension until he proves he’s good enough for it, and from what we’ve seen from him in 2013 and 2014, he’s not that good, even if it’s never too bad to be bursting with confidence.

Griffin has recently been ranked as one of the worst quarterbacks in the league, but maybe he knows something others don’t. If he can’t adapt to Jay Gruden’s offensive system, it’s not just going to be a new team for him next season and who knows, maybe even finding himself out of the league. He might not even finish this season as a starter if things go badly right from the start.
