NFL Rumors – Oakland Raiders & San Diego Chargers Don’t Mind Realignment

New Carson Stadium

Both the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders are hell bent on moving the franchises to Los Angeles and play in the new Carson stadium eventually. And if it means being moved out of the division, they’re willing to let it happen.

Both the Chargers and the Raiders are playing in the AFC West and are bitter rivals. Sharing a stadium might cause some scheduling problems for the league among other issues, but the teams won’t let it stand in their way, as it seems clearer and clearer that their current homes won’t be able to keep them in place.

Under current rules, the next opportunity for a team to file to relocate would be in January 2016. Any decision to move would have to clear a tangle of hurdles, including winning the support of at least 24 of the 32 teams.

For now, it’s all about business meetings, blocking any attempts by Oakland and San Diego to keep the teams and trying to show off with the plans for the new stadium, which is supposed to be a 65,000 seater with some extravagant features, but it’s going to take some time before we’re actually going to see a Los Angeles team after two decades.

The St. Louis Rams are also interested in a move to Los Angeles, with a stadium in Inglewood planned. Part of the NFC West, moving the franchise back to Los Angeles actually makes a lot more sense considering the other teams in the division are in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Glendale.
