It’s only the preseason, but the Miami Dolphins cannot ask for anything better from Ryan Tannehill, who looked great in the 31-30 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Tannehill played for three drives, in which the Dolphins scored twice. He finished with 12-of-15 for 102 yards and one touchdown, focusing on short passes mostly to his backs, once connecting for a touchdown pass with Damien Williams, who also ran for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Tannehill has now completed 82% of his passing attempts in the preseason, possibly proving the Dolphins were right to give him the massive contract extension, making him one of the top 10 highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL.
Lamar Miller looked great out in the open off Tannehill throws, helping set up the first touchdown with two receptions for 38 yards. He and Williams didn’t run for much, but they’re probably going to share the carrying load with LaMichael James who got 45 yards on six carries.
Cornerback Jamar Taylor managed to get an interception, but he left the game with a quad injury. Left tackle Jason Fox was evaluated with a concussion.
The Dolphins played Matt Moore, who threw a touchdown pass to Matt Hazel but also one interception; and Josh Freeman, who completed just one pass (1-for-5) and was intercepted once as well.
