One great sign of rookie progress is learning from mistakes. The Tennessee Titans weren’t worried about his first preseason game, but are probably relieved to see him bounce back in the 27-14 win over the St. Louis Rams.
Mariota completed 5-of-8 passes for 59 yards and could have had a touchdown if it wasn’t for Dexter McCluster dropping a pass in the endzone. After the week 1 of preseason game, not having any turnovers is an improvement.
Mariota played a couple of plays without the communicator in his helmet working, but that didn’t bother him from looking good on the field.
The Titans took a 20-0 lead before the Rams got into the game. It began with Perrish Cox returning an interception for a touchdown. It carried on with Zach Mettenberger who looked good with a touchdown pass, although it’s not going to help him regain his place in the first team, reserved for Mariota unless something shocking happens.
Bishop Sankey had a strong performance for once with 45 yards on six carries. Entering his second season, he’ll have to improve on his 3.7 yards per carry average if he wants the Titans to count on him in their dysfunctional running game.
