NFL Rumors – Indianapolis Colts Now Busy Trying to Extend Anthony Castonzo

Anthony Castonzo

It’s the time of contract extensions, and after dealing with their #1 wide receiver, the Indianapolis Colts are trying to keep left tackle Anthony Castonzo with the team, long term.

Castonzo is entering his fifth season in the league. Being a first round pick in 2011, the Colts ere pleased enough to pick up his fifth year option, worth $7.4 million in 2015. But the two sides are trying to close on a deal a few years going forward, and Castonzo, without any Pro Bowl or All-Pro selections, is trying to get the big pay day blindside protectors often get.

Six left tackles around the league average more than $10 million per season, and Castonzo is looking for that kind of money. For now, there’s been no progress or little of it in the negotiations, but we’ve heard that tune before on a lot of big deals that occurred during this offseason.

With quality, healthy and consistent left tackles a very difficult thing to find, and with the Colts committed to helping Andrew Luck get the best out of what’s around him, it’s hard seeing them letting Castonzo go at the end of this season. After a few years with a lot of free cap space, the big extensions are coming up. Castonzo has his upcoming deal, and soon Andrew Luck will have his too.
