NFL Rumors – Oakland Raiders Hoped Derek Carr Would Finish the Preseason on a High Note

Derek Carr

With the fourth game in preseason usually not involving starting quarterbacks, Derek Carr putting on a mediocre performance in the loss against the Arizona Cardinals is probably the last we’ve seen of him before the regular season for the Oakland Raiders.

After a mostly positive summer, Carr was held to 18-of-34 for 213 yards in just over one half of football played, finishing his role on the field with a pick six to open the second half.

He did do a good job of leading the Raiders to five field goals, but couldn’t get in the end zone. Matt McGloin did a little bit better during his spell, completing 11-of-15 passes including one touchdown pass to Kris Durham which tied the game at 23-23 before Marion Grice scored the game winning touchdown for the Cardinals.

Trent Richardson once again failed to impress, rushing for 19 yards on five carries, although no one else did for the Raiders on the ground. Latavius Murray gained just one yard on 7 carries while Roy Helu finished with eight yards on four carries. Amari Cooper with 4 receptions for 62 yards was the most impressive of the team’s playmakers.

One thing that was pleasing for the Raiders was their first team defense, allowing just 3 points in the first half and more so, making the game an awful experience for Carson Palmer. He was intercepted twice and sacked three times, looking less than impressive against his former team.
