NFL Rumors – Atlanta Falcons Still Don’t Know Who Their Starting Running Back is

Devonta Freeman

So is it going to be Tevin Coleman or Devonta Freeman? The Atlanta Falcons still don’t have someone their 100% sure of to be their starting running back.

Coleman, a third round pick out of Indiana, had a good training camp when he was healthy, but did suffer from a hamstring problem. His performance in the final preseason game should help him with 56 yards on 8 carries against the Baltimore Ravens.

What about Freeman? He was also sidelined at times with a hamstring issue. He headed into the preseason as the premier running back for the team, but it’s not like he’s done a lot in the past to show he’s good enough to hold on to the position: He averaged just 3.8 yards per carry last season, which was another disappointing year for the Falcons.

It won’t be surprising to see the Falcons kick things off with a mixture of both. Coleman is considered to be the workhorse of the two, someone with more of a chance to become a three-down back. Freeman is the small, quicker one, and we might see the Falcons going with the committee approach early on, before it becomes a bit clearer who is actually more suited for more responsibility.
