NFL Rumors – Philadelphia Eagles Make Tim Tebow an Unemployed Quarterback Again

Tim Tebow

The Philadelphia Eagles decide to release Tim Tebow as they make their final cuts down to a 53-man roster, which means he wasn’t good enough to be a number 3 quarterback, and all of his improvements didn’t get him anywhere.

Chip Kelly, who dropped hints that the fourth preseason game of the season would determine whether Matt Barkley or Tebow would win the #3 QB spot, surprised everyone by first trading Barkley to the Cardinals, and then remaining with two quarterbacks (Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez) by releasing Tebow as well.

We felt Tim has progressed, but we didn’t feel he was good enough to be the number 3 guy right now. He really improved his throwing motion from when he was throwing a couple of years ago. He worked extremely hard on it and deserves a lot of credit for that. I talked to him a little earlier when we released him. He just needs to get more playing time. Get out there and get actual reps. Because he has done a ton on his own from an individual basis, but it is about taking that next step and playing the game.

Tebow hasn’t played in the NFL since 2012, which makes him eligible for someone’s practice squad, as the likelihood of anyone signing him remains unlikely. This might mean going back to ESPN and talking about SEC games, something he had done quite well since being pretty much kicked out of the league.

The Eagles might not be done with their quarterbacks depth chart. It’s rumored they’re going after Christian Ponder to try and fill that need, although eventually, they might end up starting the season with just two guys, and maybe turn against to Tebow if someone picks up an injury.
