The 35 years old first baseman Derrek Lee, who spent 2010 mostly with the Chicago Cubs and finishing it with the Braves after playing at Wrigley since 2004 will be an American League player for the first time in his 14 year career starting in 2011 after signing a one year contract with the Baltimore Orioles today.

The three time Golden Glove award winner didn’t have the best of seasons in 2010, hitting .260 (his lowest since 1999) with 19 home runs and 80 RBI’s. His slugging, OBP and OPS were also way off his usual numbers, reaching their lowest point since his early Florida Marlins days. Still, the Orioles, ranked 21st last year in the Majors in the home run department hope the Lee and his 320 career home runs can help them in that department. Lee hit 35 of them in 2009. The Orioles had only two players who hit more than 20 last season – Luke Scott (27) and Ty Wigginton (22).

Oh, and if you care about the money Lee will be making, he’s going to make 7.25 million dollars and a chance to make it an even 10 with preformance bonuses.
