NFL Rumors – Indianapolis Colts Might be Forced to Start Josh Johnson at Quarterback

Josh Johnson

Heading into their Thursday night game against the Houston Texans, the Indianapolis Colts find themselves in a lot of trouble. With Andrew Luck and Matt Hasselbeck both questionable, it might be Josh Johnson who starts for them.

The Colts (2-2) won, barely, against the Jacksonville Jaguars without Luck, who is still questionable due to his shoulder injury. Matt Hasselbeck did a good job in keeping things simple and without trying to do too much as the Colts squeaked by on an Adam Vinatieri field goal. But he’s now ill, which means it might be Johnson, who has been around for quite some time but is also quite rusty in terms of actually playing in games.

The 29 year old who was a fifth round pick in 2008 after playing at Oakland Tech has been around four teams in the NFL and in five career starts, has never tasted victory. He hasn’t played in a game since 2013, hasn’t thrown a pass since 2011. In short, for the first time this season, if Johnson does play for the Colts, the Texans finally have a chance of having the best quarterback on the field, be it Brian Hoyer or Ryan Mallett.

The Colts released Johnson earlier this week, leaving themselves with just two quarterbacks, but re-signed him quickly when it turned out Luck’s return isn’t going to be a quick one.
