NFL Rumors – Dallas Cowboys Hoping the Greg Hardy Thing Simply Disappears

Greg Hardy

As a football player, Hardy is excellent. The defensive end had 26 sacks for the Panthers in 2012 and 2013 before getting suspended for the entire 2014 season (got one game in before it took effect). He has three sacks in three games for the Cowboys, making their defense a lot more difficult to deal with, although the lack of Tony Romo or any kind of competent quarterback on offense is negating his influence.

But there’s the human being Hardy. And there seems to be a consensus about how bad he is. Jerry Jones keeps defending him. There are those who suggest that the charges being expunged from his record should mean it’s time to move on. He was convicted on charges of domestic violence in a bench trial, but he sought out a jury trial. Holder stopped cooperating with authorities and the case was dismissed. Most believe she was paid off to make this thing go away.

Hardy or Holder haven’t spoken to the media much since that night. Hardy did go on twitter saying he regrets what happened in the past, is dedicated to being a better person & teammate and is also grateful for the opportunity to play in the NFL.

Hardy, Greg

Since Deadspin released the photos there’s been quite the s@#%storm around the issue, with Jerry Jones saying the Cowboys never had access to those photos (reminding us of the Ray Rice case and the NFL saying it never had access to the elevator video), but he and the organization continue to support the player.

While we did not have access to the photos that became public today, we were and are aware of the serious nature of this incident. We as an organization take this very seriously. We do not condone domestic violence. We entered into the agreement with Greg fully understanding that there would be scrutiny and criticism. We have given Greg a second chance. He is a member of our team and someone who is grateful for the opportunity he has been given to move forward with his life and his career.

The Cowboys, 2-5, play the Philadelphia Eagles at home in their next game (Sunday Night Football). They’ve lost five games in a row, and are desperately trying to hang on to their remaining playoff chances, hoping there are some left by the time Romo comes back from his injury.
