Andy Murray advanced to his second consecutive Australian Open Final earlier after beating David Ferrer 4-6, 7-6, 6-1, 7-6. The Brit had a slow start, but his usual ‘just keep it inside’ with a spice of aggressiveness he has shown all throughout the last two weeks eventually gave him the hard earned victory.
This will be Murray’s third grand slam final and the first one not facing Roger Federer, who was knocked out by Novak Djokovic yesterday in straight sets. The Murray – Djokovic final, symbolising the next generation of the men who should rule tennis alongside Nadal, will be the eigth meeting between the two players, with Murray holding a 4-3 edge.
Murray, if he needs any reminder, will face the pressure of Britian not having a Grand Slam singles’ champions since Fred Perry in 1936. Luckily for him, there are no Nadal or Federer waiting for him in Melbourne. Djokovic is far from the easiest opponent, but Murray deals with him much better than he does with Rafa and Fed.
