NFL Rumors – Philadelphia Eagles & Dallas Cowboys Interested in Signing Nolan Carroll

Nolan Carroll

The Philadelphia Eagles and Nolan Carroll have been trying to work out a new contract, but with no success so far. One team that could benefit from it are the Dallas Cowboys.

The NFC East switch might happen if the Eagles and Carroll can’t get on the same page. The 29-year old made $5.25 million total during his two years in Philadelphia. He signed with the Eagles after playing for Miami from 2010 to 2013. He started in just one game for the Eagles in 2014, but in 11 games last season was a starter every time, finishing with two interceptions and his first career touchdown, a pick-six off of Eli Manning in a win over the New York Giants.

The Eagles seem to be working on getting rid of every kind of reminder that Chip Kelly was with the team except for rare cases. They also have Walter Thurmond, another defensive back, to work out a new deal with, with so far not making progress in that department too. Byron Maxwell, the cornerback opposite Carroll last season, was traded to the Miami Dolphins. The Eagles made some big signings on the first day of free agency, committing a total of $98 million to three players, including safety Rodney McLeod, which might give us a hint about how much they’re working hard to keep Thurmond.

The Dallas Cowboys haven’t been doing much so far, retaining Rolando McClain for one more season and trying to generate more cap space. We did see some cornerbacks (like Janoris Jenkins) receive big new shiny contracts from their new teams. While Carroll isn’t a bad player, he isn’t some notorious ball hawk or shutdown corner. With the first wave of big spending over, he probably isn’t going to get the kind of money Jenkins or Mark Barron received the day before.
