NFL Rumors – Giants, Bears, Eagles & Dolphins Interested in Signing Patrick Robinson

Patrick Robinson

Part of the second wave of free agents looking for a team is Patrick Robinson, who played last season with the San Diego Chargers, but from the list of visits and interested parties, is more likely to end up playing for the New York Giants, Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles or the Miami Dolphins.

The Giants, who made a lot of heads spin with the money they spent during the first few days of free agency, are now less about big names and more about very specific needs. They’re looking for someone who’s good in covering slot receivers, which Robinson sorta fits the bill, although they also have their eyes on Jerraud Powers. Obviously, they’re not the only team on the lookout for cornerbacks, with the Bears, Eagles and Dolphins interested as well.

The Bears ($22 million), Dolphins ($20 million) and Eagles ($14.1 million) all have enough room under the cap for Robinson, who made $2 million in his one season with the Chargers after five seasons with the Saints. But the Giants, who like the Eagles have spent big, are still within reach of these deals with over $18 million in cap space, although at some point they might start thinking about leaving something for next season.

Robinson was a 1st round pick by the Saints in 2010 after an impressive career at Florida State that included being second-team All-ACC in 2009 and some impressive times while running track (22.06 in 200 meters). He played in 58 games for the Saints in different secondary roles, playing all 16 games in a season just once (starting all of them in 2012). With the Chargers he also played in all 16 games, starting 10 of them.

He has an eye for the ball with 10 career interceptions (although just three in the last couple of seasons) and has one defensive touchdown during his time with the Saints (2012). He finished with 8 defended passes and 49 tackles last season for the Chargers, who haven’t closed the door on him but might be looking for something else as well, just like Robinson is.
