NFL Rumors – Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars & Tennessee Titans Interested in Signing Sean Spence

Sean Spence

Another potentially small signing that could be coming towards confirmation is Sean Spence, visiting with the Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Spence was a third round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012. He didn’t play at all during both the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He suffered a serious knee injury during the preseason and was declared out for the entire 2012 season. On August 25, 2013, the Steelers placed Spence on the Reserve/Physically Unable To Perform (PUP) List.Three weeks after being taken off of the PUP list, the Pittsburgh Steelers placed linebacker Sean Spence on the injured reserve, ending his injury ridden 2013 season.

The Miami Hurricanes player (First Team All-ACC in 2011) bounced back in 2014 and 2015, playing 31 games (13 of them starts) and finishing with 89 tackles and a couple of sacks. Obviously, he prefers heading back to South Florida if the Dolphins will have him, but visiting with both them and the Jags without signing anything means one of the sides isn’t completely happy with the terms being presented. Maybe in Tennessee he’ll get his wish.

As for the contract he’s looking for? Spence is probably hoping for a two-year deal, but that isn’t going to happen. He made $2.7 million over his four seasons with the Steelers on the rookie deal. He won’t get a major raise from his $680,000 salary in 2015, and it’s mostly about staying in the league for him, while showing there aren’t any long term concerns about injuries.
