NFL Rumors – Steelers, 49ers, Lions & Buccaneers Think Andrew Billings Might be a Good Draft Pick

Andrew Billings

According to Andrew Billings himself, he has already met with the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions, which narrows down the list of teams he might end up with, but not locking them down.

Billings had an impressive three years run at Baylor (he’s from Waco), winning the Big 12 defensive player of the year award in 2015 with 5.5 sacks and 14 tackles for a loss. Overall in his three years with the Bears he has 8.5 sacks and 30 tackles for a loss, and has been one of the more impressive defensive tackles in the nation with his ability to engage one or two blockers and simply plow right through them on his way to the quarterback or stopping the run.

Billings looks like he’ll be evaluated as a nose tackle by most teams although that isn’t certain, and he could be viewed as a one-technique tackle by those using even fronts, presumably a scheme-versatile kind of guy. CBS compares him to Bennie Logan of the Philadelphia Eagles: Not the most physically impressive lineman, but he is built low to the ground with a powerful base that will fit both even and odd fronts.

And while Billings is exceptionally strong, he does have an issue with his forward lean, always looking to burst forward, which comes from not being able to read plays correctly yet. He can leave a team a bit exposed by being a bit too eager to blast through the offensive line.

Most experts and mocks have him going at the end of the first round, with many thinking the Green Bay Packers and not the list of teams Billings mentioned being the favorites to pick him up, needing someone in that position more than anything, or anyone, else.
