NFL Rumors – Colts, Not Cowboys, Now Closest to Signing Patrick Robinson

Things keep changing in the Patrick Robinson free agency situation, as the cornerback is now closer to signing with the Indianapolis Colts after two days ago he seemed like a lock to join the Dallas Cowboys.

What happened in 24 hours? After the Cowboys signed Alfred Morris, Robinson was next in line. However, it was mentioned that Robinson is having some agents issue, which means he’s switching agents just before signing with a team. Turns out switching agents has steered Robinson in a completely different direction. Kevin Conner was the agent who discussed and came close to agreeing to terms with the Cowboys. Ron Butler now represents Robinson, and there’s no offer on the table from the Cowboys anymore.

There does seem to be some argument among the Dallas local reporters about what exactly is going on. Robinson might be still keeping the Cowboys as an option, and it’s only that Butler is looking for a better contract elsewhere in the meantime. Dallas won’t change the parameters of the deal they reached with Conner, who negotiated it with them even before Robinson came for a visit. But it might also mean that any shot of him playing for the Cowboys next season is officially dead.

Robinson has six years of NFL experience heading into the 2016 season, playing his first five for the New Orleans Saints before making a one-year switch to the San Diego Chargers. He started in 10 games and played in all 16 last season, putting up 49 tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble. He played in 719 snaps and was ranked as the 30th best cornerback by Pro Football Focus and played almost a third of their special teams snaps. If he does end up signing a three-year deal with the Cowboys, it might mean that Brandon Carr, who has been on the plank waiting to be pushed off all offseason long, could finally be released.
