NFL Rumors – Cowboys, Seahawks, Browns, Jaguars, Lions, Ravens & Patriots Interested in Drafting Jay Lee

Jay Lee

It’s hard to put a finger on how well Jay Lee out of Baylor can do in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens are trying to get a closer look.

The fifth year senior wide receiver did well for the Bears in their pass heavy offense during his final two years with the team. He had 1391 yards in two seasons with 14 touchdowns, averaging just under 20 yards per catch in his final season. The question everyone are asking: Is this all Lee, or does it have a lot more to do with Baylor and the defenses in the Big 12?

Lee seems to be perfect in schemes which look to isolate a receiver on a defensive back. He’s quick, long and big enough for teams to like his physical stats, but whether or not he can translate it into NFL success remains to be seen.

He’s been criticized for using a weird technique; catching balls very close to his body, which has led to an increased number of drops compared to what NFL teams like to see. There’s also a rumor swirling around about his confidence being an issue. He hasn’t seen a lot of press coverage in his college career. All those concerns won’t make him fall out of the draft, but right now no one is looking at him and seeing a starter right out of college. Probably a #3 wide receiver to start out with at best.

That doesn’t mean Lee shouldn’t be in the NFL. He run blocks well and the possibility of lining him up on the outside in one on one situations is enough to get him a place on a team. What he does with it and if he develops into an NFL starter remains to be seen. Right now it’s hard to see him ever exceeding the #2 wide receiver hierarchy slot, and not a lot of teams will give him that one either.
