NFL Rumors – Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints & Houston Texans Interested in Drafting Darius Powe

Darius Powe

Bringing an intriguing combination of size and speed, Darius Powe might be moving up some draft boards recently, impressing enough to make the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans interested in him.

Powe has already worked out for the 49ers and the Saints, especially impressing in New Orleans. It’s obvious who the Saints see Powe coming in for: Marques Colston. Like Powe is projected to be, Colston was a 7th round pick that turned into a fantastic target for Drew Brees for the better part of a decade. He wasn’t highly touted coming out of college, but his size and speed made him very difficult to deal with for a long time.

And the Saints, although not alone in this, hope Powe has what it takes to become another Colston, although no receiver taken in the 7th round or maybe even going undrafted has star quality written all over him. Powe never had impressive numbers in college, finishing with 47 receptions for 560 yards during his senior season, although he did finish with 8 touchdown passes too. He is capable of playing in special teams too, but are teams really drafting with that need in mind while the NFL tries to do its best to eliminate the kickoff return?

Powe has the Cowboys and Texans to visit as well, although more names might pop up pretty soon. Powe in total has 1253 yards and 11 touchdowns (showing just how big his senior season was compared to the rest) which means not a whole lot to work with for teams trying to review his college career. Maybe playing a bigger role in some offense will bring out even more from him, but it’s probably going to take a while before the 6’3 receiver gets a chance to play that amount of significant time.
