Another leg of the NBA free agency is over, although as last year taught us, anything can happen once the moratorium is lifted. In any case, Al Horford chose the Boston Celtics, Ryan Anderson joins the Houston Rockets and Bismack Biyombo heads back to the Southeast division, joining the Orlando Magic.
Changing Places
- Jon Leuer, after one season in Phoenix, never playing more than 67 games in one season, and at his best averaging 8.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, was signed by the Detroit Pistons on a four-year, $42 million deal
- Arron Afflalo keeps moving around, joining the Sacramento Kings on a two-year, $25 million contract. He averaged 12.8 points per game for the Knicks last season, and has played for the Orlando Magic, Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers since the start of the 2013-2014 season
- Despite his impactful playoff run with the Toronto Raptors, Bismack Biyombo is gone, joining the Orlando Magic, who have been busy this offseason. The 23 year-old Congolese center joins them for $72 million over four years
- Trevor Booker takes his athleticism to the Brooklyn Nets, joining them on a two-year, $18 million deal. He played for the Jazz in the last two seasons, averaging 6.5 points and 5.4 rebounds
- The big stretch ‘4’ prize of the offseason, Ryan Anderson, joined the Houston Rockets on a four-year, $80 million deal. He averaged 17 points per game last season in New Orleans, his second best scoring season
- Anthony Tolliver is the second pick up by the Kings of the day, joining them on a two-year, $16 million deal. He averaged 5.3 points per game last year with the Pistons
- Al Horford might be the second biggest prize of this free agency, and he joins the Boston Celtics on a four-year, $113 million deal. Horford wasn’t happy with some things in Atlanta: Playing in front of empty seats despite the long playoff streak, and the team not too eager to give him a five year deal, or their signing of Dwight Howard
- Courtney Lee is the third meaningful player to leave the Charlotte Hornets, joining the New York Knicks on a four-year, $50 million deal. He played for Charlotte only half a season after a trade got him there from the Memphis Grizzlies
- The Rockets made the last meaningful signing of the day, adding Eric Gordon from the Pelicans on a four-year, $53 million deal. Their goal of adding shooters has worked out, but they still need a big man after Howard left
Staying Put
- Despite a few bigger offers, Marvin Williams remains in Charlotte, signing a four-year, $54.5 million contract. Williams played college basketball in North Carolina, and averaged 11.7 points per game last season for the Hornets, his best since the 2008-2009 season with the Hawks
- Austin Rivers continues to push the boundaries of nepotism in the NBA by signing a three-year, $35.7 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers
