It’s been a quiet offseason and now summer for Anquan Boldin, working out as he waits for the right offer to keep his career going for one more year. Right now, it seems the New Orleans Saints are the most interested party.
There have been talks with the Cincinnati Bengals and also the Detroit Lions, but it’s been a while since, and it seemed that Boldin might be forced to retire. However, the Saints, who have a former teammate of Boldin’s on board, John Morton, are appearing as a legitimate option for the 13-year veteran, who has been working out in Florida to stay in shape, waiting for the call up.
Boldin, soon to be 36, has been in the league since 2003, playing for the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. He’s a champion with the Ravens in 2012, then leaving them for the team they beat in the Super Bowl. He’s a three-time Pro Bowl selection, with seven seasons of over 1000 receiving yards, including in 2013 and 2014. He had just 69 receptions for 789 yards in 2015, but the quarterback situation in San Francisco wasn’t going to allow anyone to put up big numbers offensively.
Boldin is probably the best of the remaining free agents at wide receiver, with Andre Johnson, with a similar track record to Boldin’s, still looking for someone to show some interest, and the same can be said for James Jones, who is probably still hoping the Green Bay Packers pick up the phone and bring him back.
