NFL Rumors – Washington Redskins, Jacksonville Jaguars Interested in Greg Hardy

Greg Hardy

One team joining the growing list of interested parties in Greg Hardy is the Washington Redskins, who are considering adding the defensive end, who played for one of their division rivals last season.

The Redskins are looking for a defensive end to fill in for the injured Junior Galette, and showed prior interest in Dwight Freeney. However, they seem to be passing on the 14-year veteran, and are now holding internal discussions about Hardy, According to Ed Werder. Josh Norman, who signed with the Redskins this offseason after not agreeing to a long term deal with the Carolina Panthers, was Hardy’s teammates in Carolina. He seems to be vouching for a player very few still believe in, in terms of behavior.

Hardy worked out for the Jacksonville Jaguars and left a pretty good impression, although right now, they’re not planning on signing him, doing it more as a “homework” kind of setup, giving them knowledge about Hardy’s ability right now should the need to fill in for an injured player come up. Hardy has been waiting for someone to invite him over since the season ended, as the Dallas Cowboys have said a number of times they have no intention of bringing him back.

Hardy joined the Cowboys after missing almost all of 2014 due to a domestic abuse suspension. The case never made it to trial, with Hardy settling out of court, but photos of his ex girlfriend and the alleged abuse made it to the internet, making it difficult to focus on Hardy’s football ability without considering his off the field issues. He also had problems in the Cowboys locker room, and made himself quite unwelcome as the season went by, despite producing rather well on the field during a difficult season for the Cowboys.

The soon to be 28-year old was a sixth round pick in 2010 by the Panthers. Since then he has played 75 games, getting 40 sacks, one interceptions, 16 deflected passes and 8 forced fumbles. He had 26 sacks in 2012 and 2013 combined, making the Pro Bowl in 2013 and the AP’s 2nd team All-Pro. He played in 12 games last season for the Cowboys, finishing with six sacks.
