2014 World Cup – Day 2 Results & Table

Day 2 of the 2014 World Cup brought us the sensational result from group B as the Netherlands crushed Spain 5-1 with braces from Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben. Chile also won in that group, beating Australia 3-1, while Mexico capped things off in Group A with an impressive 1-0 win over Cameroon which wasn’t as close as the scoreline might suggest.

Match Highlights – Chile vs Australia

Two very different teams met in Cuiaba to end the second day of football and the first round of matches in Group B. Chile played a brilliant first half, enough for them to beat Australia 3-1, relying mostly on Alexis Sanchez and his skills with a goal and an assist, while Tim Cahill gave Australia a fighting chance and hope for most of the second half.

Match Highlights – Spain vs Netherlands

Everything written about the weakness of the Dutch side can be scrapped. Two goals from Robin van Persie and two from Arjen Robben led the Netherlands to an incredible 5-1 victory over Spain in something of a revenge match to the previous World Cup final, coming back from a goal down after the defending champions got a penalty kick they didn’t deserve.

Match Highlights – Mexico vs Cameroon

Justice sometimes is done, despite terrible officiating. The second day of the 2014 World Cup isn’t just about the Group B headliner and a rematch of the previous final between Spain and the Netherlands, but also gives us the second match in Group A which should be enjoyable as Mexico play against Cameroon while we also have somewhat dark horse candidate Chile playing against Australia.

World Cup – Day 1 Results & Table

Day 1 of the 2014 World Cup is behind us. One match in group A, as the hosts Brazil beat Croatia thanks to some creative brilliance from Neymar and Oscar, and also some terrible officiating that helped them pick up 3 points to set the pace and top the table in their group. Brazil 3 […]

Match Highlights – Brazil vs Croatia

A very enjoyable opening match which ended in a predictable way, although with a bitter taste in the mouths of those who watched. Neymar scored twice and Oscar finished as Brazil beat Croatia 3-1 despite conceding first from a Marcelo own goal, later helped by a penalty decision from Yuichi Nishimura that saved the hosts from a very complicated situation.
