The best match of the season so far as Arsenal draw for a third consecutive time, finishing with a 2-2 draw against Manchester City. The visitors took the lead through Sergio Aguero, but the Gunners were the better team for most of the contest, grabbing the lead in the second half with fantastic goals by Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez before Martin Demichelis scored the late equalizer.

Match Highlights – Germany vs Argentina, England vs Norway
For some reason football needs to stop because of international friendlies, most of them not mattering to anyone. Still, Argentina beating Germany 4-2 in a World Cup Final “rematch” and England barely winning 1-0 against Norway stood out in a night of mostly unappealing matches.

For the first time in 10 years, Real Madrid lose to Real Sociedad, dropping a two goal lead achieved through Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale, conceding four goals in the span of 40 minutes to lose 4-2, as they lose three precious points in the always difficult La Liga title race.

A tough away venue didn’t stop Barcelona from picking up three more points, coming away with a 1-0 win over Villarreal at El Madrigal thanks to a goal from Sandro Ramirez who was one of the few players who changed the match coming off the bench.

Match Highlights – Leicester vs Arsenal
The season refuses to take off for Arsenal who did grab the lead on their visit to Leicester thanks to Alexis Sanchez, but a minute later conceded an equalizer from Jose Ulloa, who had quite a few chances to decide the match and not let it end in a 1-1 draw.

Match Highlights – Tottenham vs Liverpool
What a difference having another striker makes, as Liverpool returned to their diamond formation and once again routed a sad looking Tottenham side, beating Spurs 3-0 at White Hart Lane through another brilliant display from Raheem Sterling who scored the opening goal, followed by Steven Gerrard and Alberto Moreno also putting their name on the score sheet.

Match Highlights – Everton vs Chelsea
It’s only August, but Chelsea beating Everton 6-3 just might be the best match we’ll have all season in the English Premier League, with the visitors starting out strong through Diego Costa and Branislav Ivanovic but letting the home side make it a classic in Goodison Park, especially in the second half as the Toffees kept chasing but never had quite enough to reach the best team in the league right now.

That’s about as good as it gets for Louis van Gaal and his players, including Angel di Maria making his debut, as they come away with a 0-0 draw against Burnley, the newly promoted side winning their first point of the 2014-2015 Premier League campaign.
