Forget about everything that happened today – Day of the Olympic games was Michael Phelps returning to the top, winning his 20th Olympic medal and his 16th of gold, becoming the first swimmer to win the same event (200 IM) in three Olympic games, leaving Ryan Lochte and the rest of the field way way behind in a great day for the Americans in the pool.

Chad le Clos of South Africa, only 20, ended Michael Phelps’ reign at the 200 meters butterfly, overtaking the man with more medals (19) than any other athlete in the history of the Olympic games with one final stroke. But Phelps did get his first gold of the Olympics, anchoring Team USA to gold, alongside Ryan Lochte, winning the 4×200 meters freestyle relay.
