Gold Medal Winners on Day 4 of the 2012 Summer Olympics
Chad le Clos of South Africa, only 20, ended Michael Phelps’ reign at the 200 meters butterfly, overtaking the man with more medals (19) than any other athlete in the history of the Olympic games with one final stroke. But Phelps did get his first gold of the Olympics, anchoring Team USA to gold, alongside Ryan Lochte, winning the 4×200 meters freestyle relay.

Gold Medal Winners on Day 2 of the 2012 Summer Olympics
Dana Vollmer set a new world record, one of two on the day in the pool, winning the 100 meters butterfly competition, while France and South Africa took gold in the pool as well with the French overtaking Ryan Lochte and the United States in the final meters of the relay race, while China had another good day with gold medals in diving (as always) and shooting and Marianne Voss of the Netherlands won the most dramatic gold of the day in the Women’s road race.

Gold Medal Winners on Day 1 of the 2012 Summer Olympics
Ryan Lochte won the first gold of what should be many more in the London Olympic games, but China came away as the golden nation of the first day with gold medals in swimming, weightlifting and shooting. Italy dominated women’s fencing as always while also picking up a surprising gold medal in archery.
