So what did we have among the top 25 teams on Saturday of January 16? Kansas and Oklahoma not impressing but avoiding more Big 12 losses, Notre Dame upsetting Duke, Maryland crushing Ohio State, North Carolina cruising past North Carolina State and Kentucky losing again, this time to Auburn, which shouldn’t be that big of a surprise.

But we’ll being at the top, as Kansas beat TCU 70-63 behind five players scoring in double figures, not letting the loss to West Virginia rattle them. Meanwhile, Oklahoma hosted the difficult Mountaineers and narrowly escaped the upset behind 17 points and one big steal from Buddy Hield to finish the game. Number three Maryland didn’t have an issue, crushing Ohio State 100-65 and improving to 5-1 in the Big Ten, getting 25 points from Robert Carter and 22 off of Rasheed Sulaimon, formerly of Duke.

The Tar Heels improved to 5-0 in the ACC while keeping The Wolfpack winless, beating them 67-55, getting 23 points from Kennedy Meeks despite an overall awful shooting game from the team. Villanova are also undefeated in their conference, beating Georgetown 55-50 to make it to 6-0 in the Big East. Still in the Big East, Xavier beat Marquette 74-66 in Milwaukee, led by James Farr with 16 points and 19 rebounds in just 29 minutes.

Down the rankings we go to number 8, Miami, the highest ranked team to lose so far this weekend, dropped 76-65 against Clemson, who have just one loss in the ACC so far. Jaron Blossomgame led the Tigers with 25 points. More upsets in the ACC? Notre Dame in Durham, beating Duke 95-91, making it Duke’s second loss in conference play this season, as a trio of Bonzie Colson (31 points), Demetrius Jackson (24 points and Steve Vasturia (22 points ) did almost all of the damage on their own.

Out of the top 10, number 12 Providence were upset at home by Seton Hall, losing 81-72 with Khadeen Carrington leading the Pirates with 22 points. This leads us to Kentucky losing their second SEC game of the season, this time 75-70 at Auburn, ending an 18-game losing streak to the Wildcats. Kareem Canty scored 26 points for the now 8-8 Tigers. Still in the SEC, number 15 Texas A&M had no problem beating Georgia, winning 79-45 in Athens.

Number 17 Iowa State cruised against Kansas State with a 76-63 win while number 18 Arizona picked up an important win, beating Washington State 90-66, improving to 15-3. South Carolina bounced back from losing to beat Missouri 81-72 while Pittsburgh enjoyed playing against the awful Boston College, winning 84-61 behind 22 points from Jamal Atis. Baylor needed a buzzer beating 3-pointer from Lester Medford to beat Texas Tech 63-60, Butler crushed St. John’s 78-58 to keep them winless in the Big East and Gonzaga rounded up things for the top 25 with a 88-52 win over San Diego.
