Arsenal FC Transfer Rumors – Trying to Sign Alvaro Morata on Loan

Alvaro Morata

It seems like Alvaro Morata missed out on his chance to become a starting player for Real Madrid this season, and is trying to find some playing time by being loaned out in the next transfer window. There’s been plenty of interest coming from the Premier League, and especially from Arsenal, who seem to be edging out Swansea and Spurs for his services.

With Karim Benzema scoring again; Jese Fernandez becoming the second option behind the starting forwards; and Gareth Bale playing like his price tag indicates, Morata is no longer someone who can expect to feature off the bench or in the lineup every match. The 21 year-old has played in 10 league matches this season, most of them coming off the bench, scoring a couple of times. However, he wants, and probably deserves more playing time, which he might get in the Premier League.

According to the Daily Star Morata has rejected the Spurs offer and prefers playing for Arsenal, but according to the Punto Pelota, the relationship between Real Madrid and Spurs, which has mostly been about Tottenham receiving huge sums of money for their best players from the Spanish club, has put Tottenham ahead of the rest in the race for the talented striker.

Swansea do have the Spanish connection going for them with Michael Laudrup as the manager and probably a better chance of playing, but Morata might prefer playing on a team that offers a higher level of competition, even if it doesn’t promise him automatic minutes. Arsenal have only Olivier Giroud to play behind, while Tottenham have pretty much only Roberto Soldado to fight for a starting spot with. It seems that both options are equally attractive, and it could come down to where his own team wants to send him on loan.

Spurs are probably the team that needs him the most, even if they finally scored in their most recent match, a 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
