While at first look, the Bayern Munich squad seems perfect and in no need of changes for the near future, it’s hard to believe they won’t continue and bring in quality players, with the next name on the list of players worth signing being that of Laurent Koscielny of Arsenal.
After a couple of rough seasons to being his career in North London, the French centre back emerged as possibly the team’s best player this past season, especially when it comes to his “clutchness’ and performances in the match, for a second straight seasons, that secured the Champions League spot for the team.
Arsenal, who have had defensive problems with or without Koscielny, won’t really be looking to sell him, but as every summer has shown us, they’re much closer to being a feeder club to the real forces in European football than a team that belongs to that elite club.
Bayern enjoy some of the best central defenders in Europe with Dante, Jerome Boaten and Badstuber (when he’s healthy), but it’s never wise to keep things exactly the same without any sort of change. Koscielny, 27, would provide another tough character in the back, who also possesses a fantastic aerial ability and a much improved composure quality to him, which wasn’t there in past seasons.
He arrived at the Emirates Stadium in 2010 from Lorient for £8.45 million, and has mostly featured in the first team since then, scoring 10 goals in 119 matches. He had a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time when it came to defending more than once over these last three seasons, but as we mentioned above, he seems to have composed himself when it comes to defending over the last few months.
According to the Sun, Bayern will have to pay around £15 million for his services and breaking up his partnership with Per Mertesacker. According to those same sources, Koscielny has been discussing the offer with his teammates, inclined to accept if Arsenal do as well.
