Zlatan Ibrahimovic Loving the Attention

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lionel Messi

In a time when most leagues or no vacation and only the Premier League carrying on like players shouldn’t rest, it doesn’t take much to generate news. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is always interesting, but his remarks on both Lionel Messi being a teammate of his at PSG and his possible future with Celtic in Scotland managed to draw plenty of attention.

Ibrahimovic and Messi teamed up in the 2009-2010 season when the Swedish striker played for Barcelona. There wasn’t anything too remarkable about their partnership. They won a league title together, but Ibrahimovic left the team after a falling out with Pep Guardiola. Some suggest that Messi’s desire to play in a more central role and not on the wing helped push Ibrahimovic out of the club after one season.

But it doesn’t seem Ibrahimovic has any problem joining forces with Messi again. Paris Saint-Germain seem to be enjoying leaking to the press about their presumed interest in Lionel Messi and about willing to trigger his €250 million release clause that along with taxes will cost a lot more. Even if they do make that kind of offer (although it simply doesn’t make any sense), there’s a very good chance Messi will refuse.

As for Celtic? Players love sucking up to fans, and Ibrahimovic has decided to lead Celtic fans on by suggesting he might end up with the club one day. Celtic is still a big name and a team that shows up in the Champions League almost every season due to the ease of winning the SPL at the moment. However, there’s a very small chance of Ibrahimovic actually playing for anyone in Scotland unless his career is really an inch or two from being over.

But it’s always fun getting some attention, so Ibrahimovic is making sure this Christmas break isn’t too boring for him or those who love to cover his sayings. How serious is he actually about both claims? I’m sure he’d love to play with Messi, but the chances of that actually happening again are extremely small. Celtic? That’s even less likely.
