In his unanimous decision beating of Adrien Broner, Manny Pacquiao paved the way for some hilarious memes making fun of his opponent, a once talented and promising young boxer and now mostly a big mouth who loses most of his fights.
It’s hard to say what led to the mockery – Broner running away from Pacquiao for a whole fight or his post-fight interview with Jim Gray, announcing that he beat Pacquiao, doing it for the Hood and his hometown of Cincinnati. Fair to say, shouting out loud didn’t add any credibility to his claim. Broner won 4 rounds on the cards, but even that seems way too generous.
Broner has now lost or drawn in each of his last 3 fights, and when he next steps in the ring, it’ll be over 2 years since his last win. Since his first career loss to Marco Maidana in 2013, he’s gone 6-4-1. The only reason he’s still relevant as a big name is his big mouth, and his association to Floyd Mayweather, although that’s not something relevant either.
His loss to a 40-year old Pacquiao could be the last hit on a career that could have gone differently. For Manny, it’s just another piece of the puzzle in his illustrious career, that seems to be going past what most people expected. Hopefully, it doesn’t lead him to another fight against Floyd Mayweather.
