Transfer News and Rumors – Mid June Edition

Fernando Gago – Once he was one of the more promising young talents in the game. Now at 25, Fernando Gago is looking for playing time. He’s been with Real Madrid since 2006, arriving with Higuain. Gago’s start was better, but the two players have gone on opposite paths in recent years. Injuries and an influx of new (and better?) players have pushed Gago to the edge of the bench. It seems Liverpool, who have shown interest in the past, are very much keen on signing the 30 time international.

Tranquillo Barnetta – The 26 year old Swiss international scored two goals against England two weeks ago, which is always a great way to get a contract in the Premier League. It seems Newcastle, among other signings, are on the verge of getting the winger from Leverkusen along with other signings. They’ve also gotten rid of Kevin Nolan (West Ham) and nearly rid of Joey Barton.

Samuel Eto’o – Kind of new and surprising, but we’re about rumors, not just cold hard facts. Eto’o has said that he might leave San Siro for the English Premier League. Leading us to think of – Arsenal, who have failed with trying to lure Karim Benzema to London. Will the 3 time Champions League winner actually make a move to England?

Luka Modric – Currently the hottest name running around message boards and headlines. The 25 year old Croatian has been with Tottenham since 2008, moving from Zagreb for 16.5 million pounds. It seems City, United and Chelsea are all in business for Modric. The number being thrown around right now is 22 million pounds, although City might be offering 30. Both Harry Redknapp and Modric’s agent say 22 is too low. Some even say Spurs might demand 45 million, and will never sell Modric to Chelsea. Reasons says Berbatov plus some hefty cash movement could make it a Spurs – United deal.

Alexis Sanchez – Right now heading to be the biggest transfer of the summer, money-wise. The Chilean sensation had a very good season with Udinese, and has drawn interest from every big club in Europe it seems. Biggest suitors? Barcerlona, but Manchester United are in the chase as well, along with Manchester City (as usual). Inter are also in the mix, although it seems Sanchez is keen on either Barca or England.

Wesley Sneijder – Nothing new here. Sneijder wants out, and United and Chelsea are his favored destinations. Chelsea is still without a manager, making the Manchester option look like a better deal right now.

Giuseppe Rossi – More Barcelona. Rossi is, as usual, linked with some big cash offer every summer. Barcelona seem really persistent on getting him this summer, and are offering around 25 million Euro after various add-on clauses. Villareal, who have enjoyed the Italian/American services since 2007, including 51 league goals, are waiting for a nice round 30 mil offer.

  1. Modric is a world class player. Among the very best in premiere league and in the world. I don’t see him leaving for less than £35M.

Nolan leaving Newcastle was a big surprise. Don’t really understand why… Barton & Enrique are probably the next one (hope liverpool will get the LB). They bought Cabaye from Lille. Very good player and everyone in france wonders why he joined NUFC.

Speaking about France and Ligue 1. PSG are going to be big this year. We got Gameiro and Leonardo is going to join the staff. Almost official since he left the manager position at Milan.
They might sign Varane from Lens. Donno why since we already have Sakho and we need an experience CB.
And who knows, maybe Ganso or Lucas might come too. Leonardo is still very popular in Brasil (so is PSG legend, Rai)
