FC Barcelona, the best team in the world these past few years, with one of the greatest sides ever – Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique and it goes on. We began our Top Scorers project with Manchester United, and we continue with the Spanish and European Champions. As you’ve probably guessed, Messi, despite being only 24, is here.
Lionel Messi, 234 Goals
Forget about the blunders with Argentina. Messi is the tiniest scoring machine the planet has ever seen, and has 234 goals in 314 matches for Barca. Forget the titles – Five La Liga wins, three Champions League trophies. We’re about goals, and Messi can’t stop scoring them, when he wears the Barcelona colors. Since Guardiola has taken over the reigns at the Nou Camp, Messi has scored 192 goals in 204 matches.
Cesar Rodriguez Alvarez, 233 Goals

Usually known simply as Cesar, Alvarez is fourth on the all time La Liga scoring charts but first with the Catalan giants. He played with Barcelona from 1942 to 1955, winning 5 league titles and leading the league in scoring, winning the Pichichi once, in 1949, after scoring 28 goals. In total he had three seasons with a 20+ scoring record and scored in double figures 11 consecutive seasons.
Laszlo Kubala, 196 Goals

Born in Budapest, Kubala was actually of the Slovakian minority in Hungary. He played for three different national teams (Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Spain), spending 11 seasons with Barcelona. He won the La Liga 4 times and managed a totla of 39 goals in the 1951-1952 season in all competitions, his career best.
Josep Samitier, 178 Goals

The Barcelona born midfielder played for both Barcelona and Real Madrid during his career, spending 1919-1932 with Los Cules. He was part of the legendary Barcelona team under Jack Greenwell which won 12聽Catalonia聽titles. In 1929, he won with Barcelona the inaugural La Liga title. In the 1930’s, after the Spanish Civil War, he was exiled to France. He returned to Spain and Barcelona in 1944, coaching them to their second league title.
Josep Escola, 167 Goals
Another Barcelona born player, Escola played for Barcelona between 1934-1937 and again between 1940-1949. He won two La Liga championships with the team during the 1940’s. Like many Barcelona players after the Civil war, Escola spent his time in France, in France, playing for FC Sete.
Paulino Alcantara, 137 Goals

The first Filipino and Asian player to play for a European club, Alcantara made his debut for Barcelona at 15, in 1912. He scored a hat trick on his first match. He was later nicknamed El Romperedes, the net breaker, for a net he broke with a goal during a Spain-France match. Alcantara won 10聽Catalonia聽titles with Barcelona during the pre-La Liga days, part of the legendary side mentioned earlier.
Angel Arocha, 134 Goals
Arocha died at the early age of 31, killed in the Spanish Civil War in 1938. He played for Barcelona between 1926-1933, winning the first La Liga championship ever.
Samuel Eto’o, 130 Goals

Maybe the best striker in the world during the last 7 years, Samuel Eto’o was a huge part of bringing back Barcelona, along with Ronaldinho and Rijkaard and later Lionel Messi, to being the most popular club in the world and a symbol for attacking football. Eto’o spent five seasons with Barca, winning 5 league titles and two Champions League trophies. He netted 130 goals in 200 matches, winning the Pichichi in 2006 after scoring 26 league goals. He scored 30 league goals in 2008-2009 before leaving to Inter Milan.
Rivaldo, 130 Goals

Arguably the best player in the world during the late 90’s and early 00’s, this 2002 world cup winner scored quite a few memorable goals for Barcelona during his five seasons there. He won two league titles but his greatest moment came in 2001, on the last day of the season. Rivaldo scored a hat trick, including a 90th minute bicycle kick goal after some remarkable trickery, securing a Champions League spot for Barcelona at the last moment.
Mariano Martin, 124 Goals
Playing for Barcelona nearly his entire career, Martin spent a decade with the Catalans, winning two league titles. His best season came in 1943, scoring 30 league goals. His 124 goals came in only 150 matches. His scoring numbers and ability took a severe hit after a severe knee injury he sustained during a friendly match.
