No Federer-Nadal Final again. The 2008 Wimbledon champion, Rafael Nadal, announced earlier today during a news conference at the all England Club that he doesn’t feel a 100% and that he wasn’t about to play such an important tournament not feeling he could win it.

Nadal played a couple of exhibition games the last couple of days, one against Australian and former Wimbledon champ Lleyton Hewitt and the other against Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka. Nadal lost both matches.

This will be the first time a Wimbledon champion doesn’t show up to defend his title since 2002, when Goran Ivanisevic, the 2001 winner, retired from tennis shortly after his Wimbledon win (he returned briefly in 2004).

Roger Federer just got a little closer at getting his 15th grand slam.
