In a post season filled with Starters and Aces doing a horrible job, Chris Carpenter showed another example of his playoff prowess, throwing six strong innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals in a 3-2 win, taking a 1-0 lead in the World Series over the Texas Rangers.

Six innings, allowing 5 hits and two runs. Nothing spectacular, but a rare quality start from a pitcher in this post season, which has been mostly about hitters and bullpens carrying teams through, especially the Texas Rangers.

Both Josh Hamilton and Michael Young couldn’t get a hit, with only Mike Napoli’s home run putting something on the board for the Rangers. The Cardinals gave away only one more hit in the remaining three innings and Jason Motte eventually getting the save.

Chris Carpenter became the winningest pitcher in Cardinals history with a remarkable 8-2 with a 3.10 ERA in 13 postseason games, in which the Cardinals are 11-2. Too bad he can’t pitch all of those games.
