Dereck Chisora Slaps Vitali Klitschko During Weigh In

Dereck Chisora slapped Vitali Klitschko during the weigh in to their WBC Heavyweight title fight, and instead of going in as a sympathetic underdog, the next in a long line of unsuccessful fighters trying to dethrone one of the Klitschkos in the division, he’ll just go in as a punk who deserved to get beaten and knocked out by the 40 year old Champion.

On paper, Chisora doesn’t stand much of a chance. He has lost twice since his switch from Cruiserweight to Heavyweight. Once to Tyson Fury and most recently to Robert Helenius in a controversial split decision in Finland. Vitali? He hasn’t lost a fight since 2003 against Lennox Lewis. He has since gone on to win the WBC title and defend it seven times since 2009, including a 10th round TKO against Tomasz Adamek last September.

Klitschko has skill, experience, size (seven inches over Chisora) and reach (six inches more than Chisora). Besides the 40-28 age difference, which might give an unlikely edge to the Zimbabwe born fighter, few give the British fighter any shot of actually hurting Klitschko.

Well, Chisora proved one thing – immaturity, even stupidity. Heading in to the weigh in with a Union Jack handkerchief, Chisora slapped Klitshko as the two pressed heads which is a common occurence before fights. Vitali was stunned, but quickly regained his senses and didn’t really look to make too much of the ugly incident.

I am going to hit back on Saturday. He will get his beating. Chisora can hit, and I do, too. So I don’t see it going 12 rounds. I’m really looking forward to teaching this young gentleman a lesson,” he said. “He is from Great Britain, but he’s lacking appropriate manners.

Chisora, like David Haye who failed against Wladimir in his attempt to bring down the Klitschko dynasty, decided to talk about how boring this current Klitschko reign is and bad for the sport – Everybody’s tired of you and your brother. There’s no excitement in the ring. It’s time for the new king. People want a new relief in boxing. Him and his brother have killed the sport I love. I’m looking forward to this fight. And I trained hard. And the way we’re going to be fighting will be a 100 miles an hour from the first round to round eight, which I promise you fans that he’s going down on.
